"A gift you say? Interesting... Munin?" The raven on his shoulder, whom he was never without, squawked expectantly. "Which bag was it in again?" "Caw!" "Ah yes, left." Typewryter levitated a small magnifying glass from his left saddlebag and approached the clock. "Interesting.... Oh? It seems there's an inscription near the face."

Raising one eyebrow curiously, Sugar quickly reached into a drawer and pulled out a second loupe, fitting it into her eye and examining the point indicated by the unicorn. She quickly shut the door again before she leant in, not wanting to accidentally tumble forward into the blackness as she read the inscription.
“So there is!” exclaimed Sugar, the thrill of discovery momentarily overriding her animosity towards him, “Incendia Aquila Vicis Ianua... how very curious.”

"Give me a moment, I think I can translate that...." The unicorn's horn began to glow softly. ".... The burning eagle.... Payment unto... Lanua? That is... odd... What do you suppose it means?"

"Maybe the burning eagle was a crest for this, Lanua? And the Clock was a gift, a payment, perhaps?

"Well.... Ancient Romane soldiers would carry a standard called an aquila, an eagle, when they marched into battle.... Perhaprs this.... Wait! It can't be....."

“Payment?” Sugar giggled, “No no, Vicis means time. Trust me, I know time.” She gestured towards her cutie mark, before turning her attention back on the inscription. “The burning eagle time... something...” Biting one lip uncertainly, she turned to face River and Vicious again, not wanting them to be left out of the proceedings.
“What do you think? Any idea what Ianua means?”

"I believe Lanua is a pony, and if River is correct, maybe the owner of the "TARDIS", Vicious responded.

"No, wait... that's an I, not an L.... That means... Door? The Burning Eagle, door of time? How... Peculiar... Guess this isn't Romane."

"Door of time, hey, isn't that what a TARDIS is essentially?"

"A TARDIS? What's a TARDIS?" Typewryter was beginning to suspect there was something that they weren't telling him...

"Nothing you need to concern yourself about," insisted Sugar, shaking her head slightly in an attempt to clear it, "now then if you still want that pocket watch it would probably be best if you came back later when we'll have lots of time to find one that's just right for you. I'll figure out what my gift is later." She placed great emphasis on the word gift, in an attempt to indicate to Vicious and River that she still had no intent to reveal the truth of the matter to this particular unicorn.

"Miss Song... I understand if you do not trust me... I do not trust myself sometimes, as I fear I may be slightly mad... But this," He points to the clock, "Is very old, possibly magical, and of GREAT historical value. In other words, it is my area of expertise. One of the VERY few things which I can be trusted with. What you have here could be very important. It could be the key to great knowledge. It could be dangerous. Or it could be nothing. In any case, I cannot leave until I am certain. And besides that, whether you agree or not, I consider you a friend, and I will not leave until I know that this thing will not harm you."

Sugar was beginning to wish that she’d decided to take the day off like she’d considered doing that morning and thus never discovered the blasted thing or experienced any of the irritations that came along with it. It was precisely this refusing to ever take no for an answer that was one of the main reasons she felt uneasy around the unicorn; Celestia knows she’d never want to date somepony with that attitude.
“Look here,” she began, however before she could finish her sentence the very last thing that she’d been expecting happened: the clock vanished. Sugar yelped in alarm again, unconsciously taking several steps back away from the spot where up until seconds ago it had sat.
“Jeepers,” she breathed, noticing that there wasn’t even a mark on the floor indicating where it had been, “did somepony press something a button on it or something?”

"As I said. Possibly- though now definitley- magical. Probably dangerous. Now I am certainly not leaving until I know what just happened."

“I’m sure it was just a practical joke,” insisted Sugar, “make everypony worry about the mysterious clock and then take it away again to confuse them further. It was probably just a bored unicorn; some ponies just have far too much time on their hooves. Did you hear that rumour about Luna gluing most of the palace furniture to the ceiling?”
