Now that's something I've been putting some thought into. I have a few ideas, but the one I'm liking best is making it a feat, and it would say, grant a bonus to skills relevant to your talent, a plus 2 in the attribute that is most related, which would increase it's modifier by one, and probably a few other minor things. You could take it at character creation, but then you don't get another starting feat. Instead, you could choose to start blank, but note what your special talent is, and when the GM decides you've earned it, you get the feat for free. Just one Idea, and I'd LOVE more.

If you want more help, I'm in. I created a d20 system for Star Trek back in the day, I've got my own system that's similar to KAMB, and I've been thinking about trying to make FiM work for d20 for a while now...
As to cutie marks, you could develop two separate rule sets to be used at the discretion of the GM. Either:
1. A large chart with lots of images for a d100 OR 2. A feat-like system, but your pony gets it automatically at level 3 or 4 and either the character or the GM could choose based on alignment, class, and how the player's been portraying the character.

typewryter. If you need any help with any of this, I've also GM'ed D&D 3.5 and 4e, Pathfinder, and old and new WoD. I've also already designed, and am still helping design, several rpgs. Let me know if I can help

Are we basing this off of standard d20? If so, this site may help... www.d20srd.org/If we're using Wizards d20 as a starting point, I can look through my Monster Manuals to see if they have things like Cockatrices. I KNOW they have Manticores. And now that I think of it, Cockatrice might be another name for basilisk. Are we incorporating a class system, or do we want to do a "jobs" system, wherein you pick a job within the MLP universe and that determines your skills: i.e. Applebucker gets STR bonuses and combat additives, professional student gets magic spells, shopowners get bartering skills, plus some craft skills or something within their fields, animal helpers get empathy bonuses with animals, cloud-clearers get speed bonuses in sky, plus combat bonuses (?), etc. Man, if we're building this from the ground up, this is going to take awhile... BTW, linked from EqD, made my profile 10 seconds flat after I saw it. Did you know your game was featured? Nightly Roundup #84. RPG credintials: Played a LOT of D&D 3.5, plus some 3rd party stuff.

I'm doing a Class based-System, three classes available to all, plus two classes unique to each race. As for monsters, I will be including stats for a diamond dog slaver, a grown dragon, a manticore a cockatrice, and a Parasprite/ Parasprite swarm. Beyond that, anypony is welcome to sta out whatever they like, just wait for me to get finished with the basics first.

So, still going to do small dragons as a race?

I'm thinking yes, but not at first. I want to get everything else balanced first.

Should the monetary system be bits? And, what would be lower than bits?

I'm thinking Bits as the main currency, gems are worth more. Dragons and dogs will ONLY accept gems, and Griffons trade.

i can help.... for some reason i don't think bloodlines are a good idea.
cutie marks....( if you're ok with doing a system similar to 3.5 or pathfinder) they should give you skill bonuses (like +4 to a proffesion of you choice and +2 to actions that are related)

Cutie marks are as simple as: +4 to all skill checks related to the cutie mark.
