(I had originally made this for an rp that a friend of mine and I were going to do, but I suppose it fits here too, in a way. Most of the info is relevant and the back story might make for a fun read. )

Personality: Energetic and Brave. She’s one of those ponies who run everywhere and do everything without a care in the world. She cares for everypony and would do anything for her friends in less than ten seconds flat. She loves Coby like a brother (makes sense, they are step siblings) and helps him open up around others.
Backstory (Both Coby and Ami): Coby Blaze was born and raised in the quiet village of Mare. He was raised by his two loving parents Corona (mother) and Solar (Father.) From a young age he was gifted with a natural talent for magic and an unusual gift with a blade. Mare was a magical village but it had only one resident that was involved in any kind of weapon making or training. An older horse by the name of Dagger Shot. Coby’s parents were always very protective of him so when he asked to study under Dagger they were a bit worried. Dagger sensed the power in the young colt and assured them that he would be alright.
As years went by Coby grew and his skills with both magic and sword grew sharper. His master gave him a survival mission one morning “Go out into the Deadwood forest and stay alive for one full day.” At first Coby was startled. “D-deadwood forst? But that place is cursed!” He stammered. “Come now young Coby, with your talent I’m sure you can do it… I feel that you will be needed soon… You should be ready for that moment…” Coby tilted his head. “…Needed…? Wha-” “You should leave at once. No more questions.” And with that, Dagger sent Coby off.
“What does he mean by needed…?” Coby thought to himself as he looked around the forest. “I can barely see…” He focused for a second and created a small ball of light above his horn. “That’s a bit better but..” At that time he was cut off by a loud shriek. Coby glanced around frantically for the source. “W-what was that noise!?” He took a few steps forward and he heared a rustling from the bushes to his left. “H-hello…?” A few moments passed and a young filly with a light pink coat stumbled out and collapsed in front of him. His eyes grew wide as he examined the young pony. “H-how did you get like this…?” He asked but no avail. She was out cold. Her coat was stained crimson in a few places and she had a gash under her left wing. Coby’s heart skipped a beat.
A few seconds later he heard a loud roaring noise from where the little pony had emerged and he stepped backwards. “W-what now..?” A few seconds passed and He was about to approach the filly once more but stopped short. “Stop where you are…” a cold voice spoke from the bushes. His eyes grew wider and he froze as a manticore emerged. “I have been hunting this little one for some time now…” It stared down at the little pony. “It seems the chase is finally over… Now then…” It looked up at Coby. “what to do with you…? Perhaps you would make another good meal..?” Coby’s eyes narrowed and grew cold. “Meal…? You mean to eat her…?”
The manticore smirked. “Indeed… She would make a tasty morsel for sure… And so would you…” Coby’s head jerked back a little and he grunted. “I think I understand why master sent me here….” He hunched down and bit at a piece of metal under his cape. “He sent me here to protect her…” The manticore’s smirk grew. “You? What can you do…?”
Coby drew his blade and it burst into blue flames. “This…” He leapt forward and swung his head in an X patern. A moment later the smell of burnt hair hung heavily in the air. The manticore looked down and it’s eyes grew wide. It’s chest had been cut and burned, an X shaped scar clearly visible. “T-this isn’t over…” Coby took the stance again. “It is if you value your life…” “Tch…” The manticore glanced down at the pony and then back at Coby and scowled. “This isn’t worth it…” Clearly not wanting to admit it’s defeat it walked back through the forest and was gone.
Coby sheathed his blade and returned to the young pony’s side. “I need to get you back to Mare…” His horn began to glow and the two of them vanished in the blink of an eye only to reappear at Dagger’s shop the next second. “Master! Hurry, I need you!”
…..After about a year…..
“Mom, Dad I’m going to travel Equestria and see the world…” Coby spoke to his parents. His mother was in tears and his father just smiled. “Just remember, you always have a home here Coby…” He merely nodded. “Ami! Let’s go!”
A few seconds later the little pink filly from the forest came prancing out of the back of the house. “Yeah, yeah… I hear ya…” She came to a stop beside Coby. “Where are we going again? And don’t just say ‘traveling.’” “Well… Our main goal is to get to a town to the south called ‘Ponyville’ but we’re just traveling until then.” She sighed. “Alright then… Ponyville here we come!” And with that she flapped her wings and took off. “A-ami wait up!” he sighed. “I swear… She’s more trouble than she’s worth some times…” And with that, their journey began.
